What is the concept for the Science Center and when will it be ready?

The concept for the Science Center resembles a construction kit for earth focusing on ten main science areas which will be excitingly presented: Origins, Depth, H2O, Power of Nature, Lift-off, Discovery, Invisible, Wave Wonders, Illusions, and Intelligence. The content of the different knowledge worlds will be as comprehensible to children and teenagers as it will to adults. The display concept also includes many hands-on exhibits. Visitors are encouraged - and expected - to touch and experiment with exhibits. The Science Center will be an exciting place in which everyone can experience knowledge for themselves through discovery and experimentation.

The ideas behind the exhibition concept, which has been presented by project developers Groß + Partner on behalf of the investment consortium behind Überseequartier quarter, were worked out in close cooperation with Hamburg University representatives, experts and science journalists, as well as Hamburg government departments and HafenCity Hamburg GmbH.

At the moment, tying up finance for the Science Center is expected to take a further three years, while another three years will be needed for its construction. One of the contributors to financing it will be the Überseequartier consortium. Additional funds will come together through partial private uses of the building. The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg has already put aside some public funds for the center, but considerable support is also expected from patrons. As a landmark project, the Science Center will perform an important role as a place where scientific concepts and problems can be experienced.
