How do I get to HafenCity without a car?
HafenCity enjoys a variety of connections to the public transport network and is quick and easy to reach, whether by bus, U-Bahn underground or ferry. In just a few minutes’ walk from Meßberg U1 underground station you will arrive in central HafenCity; in other words Überseequartier, Elbtorquartier and the Brooktorkai/Ericus neighborhood. The Elbphilharmonie concert hall and western HafenCity are just as quick to reach from the Baumwall U3 underground station. And soon the underground will travel right into the heart of HafenCity: the new U4 line, with stations at Überseequartier and HafenCity University, will be ready in fall 2012.
Three bus lines already serve HafenCity with direct routes: buses 3 (via Rödingsmarkt) and 4 (via Jungfernstieg), as well as Metrobus 6 (via the main station) drop passengers at Katharinen primary school in Am Sandtorpark/Grasbrook, Strandkai neighborhood and the cruise ship terminal on the river Elbe. Public port ferries offer a really nice way of approaching the district: at the moment the 62 line via Fischmarkt Altona and Landungsbrücken takes you direct to Sandtorhöft pier on Kehrwiederspitze. It will not be long before ferries are calling at the completed pier at the Elbphilharmonie, continuing on to HafenCity University at the entrance to Baakenhafen harbor and eventually winding up at the Elbbrücken, the bridges over the Elbe.
Last but not least, HafenCity is also very accessible on foot and by pedal bike – whether from the main station or the Museum Mile, Jungfernstieg or Landungsbrücken. The first HafenCity rental point for the StadtRAD Hamburg bicycle network is outside the Unilever building. The network of foot and cycling paths is also expanding continuously.
