The Supervisory Board of HafenCity Hamburg GmbH and the Senate Commission for Public Companies agreed June 2021 to appoint Theresa Twachtmann to the Executive Board of HafenCity Hamburg GmbH. Ms Twachtmann will take up her appointment in the fourth quarter of 2021, taking over from Giselher Schultz-Berndt who is retiring.
She will form a management team with Dr Andreas Kleinau, who has been a member of the Executive Board since September 2020 and who will take over as CEO following the retirement of Prof. Jürgen Bruns-Berentelg on November 1, 2021. Ms Twachtsmann’s future responsibilities will include the three additional urban development areas of Billebogen, Grasbrook and Science City Bahrenfeld in addition to HafenCity.

Theresa Twachtmann is currently Head of Finance and Controlling for the public transport body Hamburger Hochbahn. After a degree in business administration, she began her career as a strategy and banking consultant at IBM in Switzerland. In 2008, she became commercial director of the prestigious Lucerne Festival and also completed a master's degree in arts administration. A native of Stuttgart, Ms Twachtmann moved to Hamburg in 2013, where she initially took over the commercial management of the Thalia Theater. Before joining Hamburger Hochbahn, she worked as an independent management consultant for the Elbphilharmonie, among other projects.

Not only does Ms Twachtmann bring many years of experience of management in the private, public and cultural sectors, she has also been a member of several supervisory boards. Due to her involvement in a wide range of projects, some of them international, she also has a broad understanding of urban planning and the political sphere.

She will contribute this experience in future to HafenCity Hamburg GmbH, a city-owned company responsible for the development of four highly complex urban ventures that will shape Hamburg's future: HafenCity, Billebogen, Grasbrook and Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld. “HafenCity is an internationally acclaimed urban development undertaking where strategies and innovations have been developed that rank today as models for the future of our cities. I am delighted to be able to help shape the growing responsibilities of the company together with a committed team.”
