After about four years in the building, Amerigo Vespucci Platz at the head of Baakenhafen basin was completed this year. At almost 10,000 m² in area, it is nearly as big as Rathausmarkt in front of the City Hall and provides plenty of space and a wide variety of areas for encounter, leisure and recreation. It is a communicative meeting place whose central location and good reachability mean it is open to all.

On the opening weekend, anyone who was interested had the chance to find out in depth about the square and the surrounding building projects. For this purpose, there was an information tent available on site on the afternoons of June 5 and 6, 2021.

Various information boards continue to offer interesting facts about the square and the Elbbrücken neighborhood. This provides the context for presenting the individual building projects with their respective focuses. From “Roots”, Germany’s tallest wooden high-rise, to the spectacular Elbtower, there is plenty to discover.

The best way to reach the square is by subway or rapid transit. “Elbbrücken” station is just a few meters away. For those interested in HafenCity as a whole, it is worth getting off at the “HafenCity Universität” stop: During the short walk eastwards to Amerigo Vespucci Square the progress of building works around the whole of the Baakenhafen basin can be admired.
